Color Inspiration for Your Big Day!

Imagine my surprise when I opened Facebook a few days ago and saw that my renewal had sparked a whole color inspiration board on Bayside Bride!  I was shocked, surprised and humbled.  Picking out the colors for your wedding day can be challenging and I have brides that have changed their colors multiple times.

If you are having problems finding inspiration for the colors for your wedding, my biggest piece advice is to…and say this with me…pick colors that YOU like!  Don’t pick the newest fad…just because Pantone says Emerald is hot for this year, doesn’t mean your wedding needs to look like Oz!  In twenty years when you look back on your wedding photos, you should LOVE them just as much as twenty days after.  If you pick a favorite color, then chances are, you will never have that, “oh, what was I thinking?!!” feeling when reminiscing back to the wedding day!

On that note, I think that is pretty obvious that I love pink.  And, because my hubby has loved me for so many years, he is accepting of my pink thing.  So, naturally, my renewal needed to have pink incorporated.  I used many shades of pink and added in blush and dark grey to even out the palette.   Hope my board inspires you to incorporate you most loved colors into your wedding day.  (And, that might not be pink…and that is okay too!)

DIY Project :: White Quote Canvas

If you have even been near Pinterest over the past few months, you’ve seen the many pictures of the white canvas with letters spelling out favorite quotes.  They are modern, beautiful, crisp and clean.  Of course, I just had to try my hand at this project for my 10 year renewal.

So, I assembled my supplies — which honestly were easy to find at an online craft store!  I did buy the canvases on super sale at Michaels — I bought a pack of 8 and had a 40% off coupon too.  Here is what you will need: any size canvas, wooden letters, spray adhesive and matte white spray paint.  Some notes on the supplies…you can find wooden letters at Michael’s or AC Moore, but I had more luck finding smaller sizes, in larger assortments online at Amazon.com (Darice is a good brand to use.).

First step is to lay out your quote on the canvas.  I played with different ideas – justifying left or right, stepping down in a pattern and spreading across the whole canvas.  Once I was happy with the layout, I would take each letter off, one at a time, spray the back with glue and put it back in the same spot.  This was the best way to keep them all in the same order and correctly spaced.  Let dry for about a half hour to an hour.

Once the glue dried, I sprayed the canvas with the matte white spray paint.  I did light even coats and them dry about an hour between each coat.  Honestly, I could have primed the wooden letters and probably wouldn’t have had to do some many coats of spray paint, but in the end it worked out fine.  When you are happy with the look, you are done!!

I used these canvases all over the wedding…at the guest book and welcome area, on our timeline wall, in many photos and now, best of all, they are hanging in my home!  A perfect way to remember another perfect day!

The Renewal :: About Smiles!

Ten years ago, I honestly didn’t think too much about teeth for the big day. Sure, I did my normal “every six month” check up and cleaning, but I didn’t give the extra thought to perfectly my smile! Now, I have a amazing dental practice…About Smiles Denistry. (BTW, I adore everyone there! They are amazing!)…and they immediately said, “what about teeth whitening for the renewal?” It was like a big, fat, “DUH!” appeared over my head. How could I forget something so important for the big day!?!??!! Your smile is in every photo…seen by all your friends and family…and should literally shine on that day! I asked the ladies at About Smiles to answers a few questions for me and I had to share them with you.

Q. When should a bride make an appointment to discuss pre-wedding dental care?
A soon to be bride should make an appointment about three weeks before the wedding date. It takes two weeks to whiten your teeth using either system.

Q. Honestly, ten years ago, I thought of many things for the big day, but other than my six month checkups, I didn’t add a special visit to my dentist into the mix. When About Smiles mentioned teeth whitening, I immediately thought…yes, that’s a great idea!!! Are there different types of teeth whitening options available?
We have two whitening treatments available.
1. Zoom is two appointments in office procedure. The first appointment is to take impressions of your mouth for custom trays. The custom trays are for you to do a pre-fluoride treatment on yourself to help minimize the sensitivity to the whitening gel. The second appointment takes about two hours and that is when the whitening magic begins. When the appointment is over your teeth are between two to five shades whiter and you can’t stop smiling at yourself.
2. Take Home Whitening is just one appointment to take impressions of your mouth for custom fit tray. Take home whitening takes 30 minutes a day for 10-14 days that you can do in the privacy of your own home. Simply put the gel in you tray and forget about it, after 30 minutes your teeth are brighter and whiter.

Q. Are there pros and cons to teeth whitening?
Pros- Brighter, whiter smile
Cons-Sensitivity, some patients get slight sensitivity

Q. What other options are available for brides, grooms and their bridal party to get their teeth picture perfect for the big day?
We offer invisalign for those that want to straighten their teeth. Invisalign can take about 8-12 months to complete and comes with complimentary take home whitening to brighten your new smile.
We also offer Veneers for anyone who wants to straighten or change the shape or look of their smile. They only take two appointments and they never change color so you never have to whiten. Once you start smile you’ll never want to stop.

Q. Describe About Smiles Dentistry in 5 words (either individual or a sentence).
