Allison Barnhill – Owner & Designer
It all started with a wedding…
Having always had a passion for all things paper, Allison was inspired to design and create all of the paper accessories for her wedding. When family and friends started asking her to design items for their weddings and special events, she decided it was time to launch Handmade by Allison.
So, almost ten years ago, she waved goodbye to her first career as a consultant for a large information technology firm in Washington, DC, and said hello to Handmade by Allison. It wasn’t long before Handmade by Allison grew into a successful invitation and accessories design business, with wonderful clients all over the country and world.
With success comes change, so, in 2007, Allison moved her business from a small room in her home to a beautiful studio in Annapolis, MD. In 2009, Allison decided to reflect the growth and evolution of her business with a new name and a new look. So, Handmade by Allison became Allison Barnhill Designs.
Today, Allison spends most of her days in her home studio, designing new creations and…tying bows. When she isn’t in the studio or curled up on the sofa with her laptop, Allison enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, nine year old boy/girl twins and her duo of smushed-faced dogs – Roxy and Lulu. She just had her 10 year renewal wedding for September 28, 2012. You can read all about it on Style Me Pretty here!
Since Allison has moved her studio back home to spend more time with her family, her team has moved onto other great adventures — planning a move to a warmer climate, being a first time mom and going back to human resources. Once you are an “ABD-girl”, you are always part of the family and while Allison might not be able to work with them every day, she still considers them part of her team!
Kaitlin MacCallum – Creative Associate
Kaitlin joined Allison Barnhill Designs in March of 2008, looking to gain experience in the wedding industry. With her upbeat personality and attention to detail, Kaitlin quickly became our go to girl for assembly.
When she isn’t assembling pockets or gluing rhinestones, Kaitlin enjoys reading, dancing, dancing and dancing…wait, did we mention dancing? Oh and she’s a fabulous model too!
Brittany Dankewicz – Studio Assistant
Brittany joined the Allison Barnhill Designs crew in 2011, shortly after her own wedding. Having used ABD for her own wedding stationery, she was excited to be on the other side of the design table. Today, Brittany is the queen of “firsts” at the studio. She is the first one here in the morning, the first to greet our clients at the door and the first person to see your invitation in print. She’s number one in our book!
When Brittany is not up her elbows in envelopes and cardstock, she enjoys spending time with her hubby and poodle, Skipper.
Allie Kotler – Pro in a Pinch
Allie came to Allison Barnhill Designs in 2006, while she was in the midst of planning her own wedding. What started as a part-time, evening and weekend hobby, turned into a full time profession. Allie has been Allison’s right hand gal for years , but is now working for Allison’s husband full time. Don’t worry, she hasn’t strayed far and is always here when we need an extra hand at the studio.
When Allie isn’t counting air outlets, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She lives in Annapolis with her hubby and two adorable kitties.
